General practitioners know all too well how time-consuming PBS authority prescriptions can be. Repeated logins, manual data entry, and navigating the PRODA portal interrupt consult flow and add unnecessary administrative load. Our new PBS Authority feature, now integrated directly into MBS Pro Scribe, is designed to change that.
With this release, clinicians can log into PRODA securely through MBS Pro, eliminating the constant cycling between external windows. Once logged in, the session remains active for significantly longer, removing the familiar frustration of being automatically timed out every 15 minutes. The result is a smoother, more continuous prescribing experience.
We have also introduced favourited medications, allowing clinicians to instantly re-prescribe commonly used items, particularly valuable for chronic conditions requiring regular authority approvals. For opioid management, the system now supports increased quantities, enabling clinicians to provide up to three months’ supply where clinically appropriate.
For practices integrated with Best Practice, MBS Pro Scribe will prefill patient identifiers directly, avoiding the repetitive task of manually entering demographic data for each authority request. This small improvement translates to major time savings over the course of a day.
Together, these features reduce the typical 3–5 minutes per PBS authority down to under 20 seconds. This represents one of the most significant administrative efficiency gains available to Australian GPs, particularly in high-demand practices where time is the most valuable resource.
Our goal remains clear: to give clinicians back time, reduce cognitive load, and streamline the essential but repetitive tasks that pull attention away from patient care. The new PBS Authority feature is another step toward achieving this, ensuring that the technology works quietly in the background while clinicians stay focused on what matters most.
MBS Pro users can access this feature now through the Scribe interface and it is available for free for all users. For more information or to enable BP integration, please contact our team at [email protected] or visits mbspro.com.au to sign up.
